Which Control Options Are Documented?

A missing binding option can be more confusing than a difficult fight. Divine Frequency controls have changed during development, and some inventory actions have a documented limitation. The official demo notes identify the options you can look for without relying on an invented default-key chart.

The November 2023 demo update added inventory-item quick-use hotkeys, separate crouch hold and toggle options, and a secondary-fire entry in the keybinding menu. These are dated demo features; the notes do not verify every current Early Access default key.

Control featureWhat the official demo update documents
CrouchHold and toggle options in the keybinding menu
Secondary fireIts own keybinding menu entry
Inventory itemsAssignment to quick-use hotkeys
Inventory UI Use Item / Drop ItemRebinding was not implemented because of an engine input limitation

Check the labels and assignments shown by your installed version. The existence of a secondary-fire binding, for example, does not mean every weapon has the same alternate action.

Set Up Item Hotkeys Separately From Inventory UI Actions

The useful distinction is between using an assigned item during play and rebinding an action inside the inventory interface. The developer explicitly added the ability to bind inventory items to quick-use hotkeys. That gives you a documented feature to check when arranging access to the items you carry.

It does not establish a universal healing key, a fixed hotkey layout or an automatic-use system. Read the effect and interaction for the particular item, then check the assignment in your version instead of assuming that a key from another GZDoom-based game will work here.

The June 2026 demo patch also improved the tutorials for item use and weapon repair. If an older explanation and the current tutorial disagree, first establish which version each describes.

Why Use Item and Drop Item May Not Be Rebindable

The November 2023 patch notes list an unsuccessful attempt to add keybinding for the inventory UI's Use Item and Drop Item functions. The developer's explanation is specific: the engine could not read raw inputs in that UI context in the same way it could during normal play.

For that documented demo, a missing UI rebinding option is therefore not evidence that you overlooked an item hotkey setting. The two features were treated separately in the same update.

The notes do not establish a workaround, a configuration-file edit or a later fix. Avoid applying an unverified console command simply because the game shares engine ancestry with another shooter.

Check Rebound Keys Against the Tutorial Prompt

Community reports add one useful historical complication. A player in the game's bug thread reported in June 2024 that tutorial dialogue displayed default keys rather than the keys the player had rebound. This is player experience from a demo, not proof that the same issue affects every Early Access installation.

If a prompt and your assignment appear inconsistent, compare the prompt with the actual binding menu before concluding that the action itself is broken. That check separates a possible display mismatch from an unassigned or different control.

For the current game listing and official community links, use the Divine Frequency Steam page. When discussing a control problem, include the version and the exact action label so that a demo-era UI limitation is not confused with a different issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Divine Frequency have toggle crouch?

The official November 2023 demo update added both hold and toggle crouch options to the keybinding menu. Check the available entries in your installed version.

Can inventory items have quick-use hotkeys?

Yes, that ability is explicitly documented in the same demo update. It is separate from rebinding Use Item and Drop Item inside the inventory UI.

Why can I not find an inventory UI rebinding option?

The developer recorded that UI rebinding could not be implemented in that demo because of an engine input limitation. The available notes do not establish a later fix.

Are tutorial keys always updated after rebinding?

A June 2024 community report says they were not in that player's demo. Compare your actual bindings with the prompt; do not assume that historical report proves a current universal bug.
